Tazi Hartmann – ASL Educator, Interpreter, and Advocate
Effective communication is the cornerstone of meaningful relationships—unless you’re trying to decipher your cat’s meows, in which case it’s just a guessing game!
I am dedicated to bridging the communication gap between the Deaf and hearing communities through innovative ASL instruction and passionate advocacy. As a partner at ASL Pros LLC, my goal is to enhance ASL education and ensure that sign language is accessible to everyone.
With over eight years of experience as an interpreter for the Deaf and DeafBlind, I specialize in critical environments, including medical and probationary settings, where clear communication is paramount. My teaching journey spans more than 15 years as an adjunct professor, where I lead courses in ASL, Deaf culture, Deaf history, and ASL linguistics. Additionally, I have taught at homeschool co-ops, conducted baby signing classes, facilitated ASL playgroups, and provided mentorship and tutoring for aspiring ASL learners.
I earned my B.S. from Gallaudet University and an M.S. in Education from Lamar University, complemented by further studies in leadership and business. I am a licensed interpreter in Wisconsin and hold K-12 and physical education credentials, having previously served as a health and physical educator at a Deaf school for three years.
Outside of my professional endeavors, I enjoy pet and house sitting, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. I cherish time with my two daughters, who are CODA (Children of Deaf Adults), as well as my six animals, all of whom are PODA (Pets of Deaf Adults) and have been using sign language since birth. I am committed to dismantling communication barriers and nurturing genuine connections through sign language. My mission is to empower others and share the beauty and transformative power of ASL with the world.
