Background:

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I come from a second-generation Deaf family where American Sign Language (ASL) has been an integral part of my life since birth. I pursued a B.F.A. in Fine Arts Photography & Communications from New York University and later earned a Master’s in Deafness Rehabilitation. My early academic journey also included time at Gallaudet University.

 

Professional Experience:

Currently, I specialize in legal interpreting, expert translations, and transcription. I serve as the Senior Vice President of Accessibility Global Group (AGG) in Communications and Strategic Development, where my responsibilities include consultations, accessibility training, technology development, and more.

 

My ongoing contractual work and previous experiences include:

• Working as an independent contractor specializing in consulting, interpreting, training, speaking, and translating.

• Serving as a DASL (Director of Artistic Sign Language) for theater, including translating Broadway and off-Broadway productions.

• Advocating for accessibility in building codes since the 1980s.

• Acting as a Disability Integration Advisor and Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) for FEMA.

• Managing projects for Arturs Architectural Renovations, with certification from Clark Construction.

 

Journey:

My career began in 1981 when I first earned my RID certification (RSC), allowing me to serve as an evaluator and trainer. In 2003, I obtained my CDI certification, which enabled me to expand into legal interpreting, particularly in courthouses. My passion for theater naturally led me to translation work, where I collaborated on projects such as TDF Broadway shows and Shakespeare in the Park. This work eventually evolved into my role as a DASL, focusing on artistic sign language direction. Over time, I transitioned from translation to interpreting, teaching, and developing workshops that emphasize conceptually accurate ASL semantics.

 

In 2019, I completed a nine-month online study in legal interpreting through Project CLIMB, further deepening my expertise in the legal and medical fields—areas that require precise and accurate language interpretation.

 

Beyond my professional career, I obtained a rabbinical degree in 2010, where I studied spirituality, natural laws, justice, and legal principles. I also became a nationally certified wedding officiant, expanding my ability to serve diverse communities.

 

Currently residing in Washington, D.C., I enjoy exploring the city’s vibrant culture. Outside of work, you can often find me shopping at local farmers’ markets, hitting the ski slopes, or seeking inspiration around the city. I have a passion for fine dining and wine, great movies, engaging political discussions, traveling, and spending time with my friends’ pets—whether playing with their dogs or house-sitting their cats.
