Intended to Fast-Track Your Skill Development

An Immersive ASL Experience

Description

Naturally accelerated by a structure of support, this course is specifically designed to provide a high level of support to the participants throughout the course. In addition to weekly instruction in small groups of 8 or less, the instructor will hold a class to support students during practice, and provide one-on-one tutoring and focused ASL skill training. Naturally, participants experience an accelerated timeline as a result of this support structure. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to participate in social conversations in ASL. 

Content

This intensive ASL program is designed for learners who want to rapidly develop their receptive and expressive signing skills. With a structured, immersive approach, participants will master key ASL grammar, vocabulary, and cultural insights in an accelerated timeline.

 

Beginning ASL 1 – Laying the Foundation

 

This course builds core ASL skills with a focus on basic communication, grammar, and conversational confidence:

✅ Introductions & Personal Information – Sharing names, answering yes/no questions, and exchanging basic details.

✅ ASL Grammar Basics – Forming affirmative and negative sentences, using facial expressions and body language.

✅ Essential Vocabulary & Fingerspelling – Learning numbers 0-12, fingerspelling introduction, and common signs.

✅ Navigating Conversations – Asking for clarification, making requests, understanding commands, and using polite manners.

✅ Verbs & Sentence Structure – Learning movement-based verbs that indicate location, subject, and object.

✅ Deaf Culture Insights – Exploring visual communication norms and cultural etiquette.

 

Beginning ASL 2 – Expanding Expressiveness & Grammar

 

Participants will enhance their ability to describe, express, and interact in ASL with greater fluency:

✅ Describing People & Personalities – Discussing physical appearance, character traits, and emotions.

✅ Grammar in Action – Using adjectives correctly, setting context in conversations, and structuring sentences with subjects and objects.

✅ Politeness & Social Etiquette – Giving and responding to commands, requests, and offers respectfully.

✅ Numbers & Fingerspelling – Expanding fluency with numbers 13-20 and developing proper noun recognition.

✅ Expressing Feelings & Opinions – Using modal verbs to communicate emotions and personal experiences naturally.

 

Beginning ASL 3 – Advanced Descriptions & Everyday Conversations

 

This final course in the accelerated series strengthens complex communication skills and cultural understanding:

✅ Describing Objects & Locations – Using classifiers for shape, size, and movement.

✅ Time & Movement Indicators – Discussing times of day, schedules, and daily routines.

✅ Quantifiers & Measurements – Expressing amounts, degrees, and approximate values.

✅ Expanding Number Usage – Fluency in numbers 13-100, incorporating age, time, and quantity into conversations.

✅ Expressive Storytelling – Describing people, personality traits, and humorous variations in ASL.

✅ Cultural & Linguistic Insights – Learning Deaf norms, signing contractions, and schools for the Deaf.

✅ Practical Conversations – Ordering at restaurants, discussing food preparation, shopping, prices, and currency.

✅ Advanced Classifiers & Grammar – Using category-based classifiers, movement classifiers, and grammatical negatives.

 

This accelerated series provides the support and structure needed for rapid ASL progression, preparing participants to confidently transition to Intermediate ASL! 🚀

About This Course – Accelerated Intermediate ASL Series

 

Designed for learners ready to refine their ASL fluency, this accelerated course series provides an intensive, high-support learning environment that promotes rapid skill development. Through small group instruction (8 participants or fewer) and dedicated support sessions, participants receive personalized guidance to strengthen both receptive and expressive ASL skills.

 

This program emphasizes real-world conversations and advanced grammar structures, helping students build confidence in social and professional ASL interactions. In addition to weekly live instruction, learners benefit from focused skill training, structured practice sessions, and individualized feedback, ensuring steady progress.

 

By the end of this series, participants will have the ability to engage in natural, free-flowing conversations, express thoughts, emotions, and opinions with clarity, and navigate diverse social situations using authentic ASL communication.

Course Content

Throughout this accelerated intermediate ASL series, participants will develop fluency in both receptive and expressive communication while expanding their understanding of ASL grammar, classifiers, and cultural insights. Each level builds upon the previous, ensuring a structured and immersive learning experience.

 

Intermediate ASL 1: Expanding Communication Skills

• Social Interactions: Offering and declining, expressing satisfaction and dissatisfaction, agreeing and disagreeing.

• Problem-Solving in ASL: Asking for and offering help, explaining issues.

• Grammar Focus: Non-inflecting verbs, conditional sentences, conjunctions, and structures for expressing emotions and physical states.

• Daily Life Topics: Food, drink, future plans, obligations, and scheduling.

• Storytelling & Experiences: Sharing current events, personal narratives, and structured storytelling.

• Cultural Insights: Deaf clubs, closed captions, and Deaf community engagement.

 

Intermediate ASL 2: Enhancing Clarity & Precision

• Descriptive & Spatial Language: Giving directions, describing locations, and providing instructions using classifiers.

• Time & Measurement: Expressing approximate time, age, and money.

• Opinion & Advice: Sharing attitudes, values, and opposing perspectives.

• Grammar Focus: Using body language for directionality, verb inflections, and quantifiers for count and non-count nouns.

• Recreational & Seasonal Activities: Expressing sequences, repeated actions, and event descriptions with appropriate grammatical structures.

• Cultural Insights: Understanding ASL variations in communication, including the use of “chat,” “talk,” and “speak.”

 

Intermediate ASL 3: Mastering Fluency & Complex Concepts

• Travel & Experiences: Describing past trips, places visited, and travel-related vocabulary.

• Occupations & Work History: Discussing job experiences, qualifications, and stipulations.

• Grammar Focus: Agent suffixes for professions, rhetorical questions, and verb inflections for frequency.

• Health & Emergencies: Expressing physical conditions, medical issues, and emergency situations.

• Current Events & Discussions: Analyzing news, debating issues, and sharing perspectives.

• Advanced Classifiers: Representing processes, flow, distance, and object attributes.

• Cultural Insights: Deaf strategies for communication with non-signers and unique linguistic structures in ASL.

 

This intensive program provides individualized support and targeted skill development, enabling participants to engage in natural, confident ASL conversations across diverse topics and settings.
